Lindsey Vonn on Body Image Insecurities, Boyfriend Tiger Woods

Lindsey Vonn is outspoken about her body insecurities and how she copes with them and her relationship with Tiger Woods in a new interview in SELF magazine. The Olympic gold medalist skier, sidelined as she recovers from knee surgery which prevents her from competing in the Sochi Winter Olympics, has much to say.

The 29-year-old U.S. champion skier won the gold medal in women’s downhill skiing at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. She recently announced she is unable to compete in the Winter Olympics, much to her great disappointment and that of her many admirers. Lindsey Vonn may be the girlfriend of Tiger Woods but all the while the gorgeous blond remains one of the sexiest athletes whose every move has been closely watched.

Yet this does not give her immunity from insecurities about her body as she shares with SELF. She spoke about what it was like to attend the Met Costume Gala and to walk the red carpet among Hollywood A-listers, celebrities, entertainment figures and public figures alike. She said, “It was hard to go … with people who eat lettuce and a Diet Coke for dinner. It’s difficult to be at events with a room full of women who weigh half as much as you do.”

A striking point right there, as by no means is Lindsey Vonn someone we would euphemistically describe as curvy or full figured or any other such term. Strong, athletic and lean, on the other hand, yes.

She went on to make an important point towards that end. She said of those who might make her feel intimidated, “I don’t envy them, though, because so many of them are skinny-fat. They have more cellulite than most people. I feel like I need to give them a cheeseburger. It’s sexy and beautiful to be strong.”

Absolutely, and Lindsey Vonn, as a strong and well-toned athlete is testament of that. And, as Tiger Woods’ girlfriend, she obviously has something to offer. She spoke of him and of how he has been helping her as she recuperates from surgery. She said, He’s helped me stay patient through rehab. Golf is all about patience. He helped me take it one day at a time. I’d say, ‘Why can’t I do this? I want to!’ And he’d say, ‘You’ll get your chance. It will come.’”

She went on to add, “We’re good for each other. I don’t know what he’s learned from me, to be honest. But we push each other and help each other when we’re down.”

As for her future competition, Lindsey Vonn has said that although she can’t compete at Sochi she is planning to compete in the World Championships in Vail, Colorado in February 2015.
