Model Maggie Rizer Pregnant With Second Child

Maggie Rizer and her husband Alex Mehran will welcome their second child early next spring.

The baby, which is another boy, is due March 23 and will be the little brother for the couple’s son Zander, 11 months.

Maggie said having her sons be so close in age “will be just about the sweetest thing in the world. A made-for-you best friend. We feel incredibly blessed.”

She said of her son, Zander, “He’s hysterical. He’s happy. He’s standing by himself now, clapping and waving.”

The blonde beauty adds, “It’s so amazing that they come out as blobs and they develop into these real little people with great personalities.”

Maggie said she adores children but is not thrilled about the pregnancy part, explaining, “I’m not that girl that’s like, ‘I love it, I can embrace it,’” she says with a laugh. “I’m like, ‘When is it going to end?’”

Rizer, 34, grew up with four siblings and hopes to to have a large family too. The model stated, “Alex and I always wanted a big family. We want to have as many kids as we can — within reason.”

The pregnancy news follows on the heels of the couple’s devastating loss of the family’s golden retriever, Bea, who died recently on a flight.

Sprinkle, Sprinkle, Little Star

Annie Dookhan wanted to be a star. After all, the days of crime lab chemists working in dark back rooms, doing dirty, boring jobs, gave way to CSI coolness.  And because she followed her passion, a whole lot of people are going to walk out of jail. Many innocent. Some guilty. It won't be possible to tell which is which, thanks to Annie.

What Annie did at the Massachusetts state crime lab makes the point better than any thoroughly written, thoughtfully researched, report by the National Institutes of Science. Annie makes clear that no science, not even real science, is any better than the human who does it.  From HuffPo:
Chemist Annie Dookhan was "Superwoman," a colleague at a Massachusetts state crime lab used to joke. She seemed unstoppable in her quest to please prosecutors, police and her bosses, testing two to three times more drug samples than anyone else, working through lunch and not bothering to put in for overtime.

"The kind of person, if you owned your own business, you would want to hire her," a supervisor would later tell police.

Aside from faking her credentials, she faked the tests. Some she just didn't bother with, some she "dry labbed," which apparently means she just looked at a substance and decided it was narcotics. She made up weights, didn't calibrate equipment, and worst of all, sprinkled real drugs onto substances when there were no drugs to be had.  A star.

The litany of wrongs is comical, not because they should make anyone laugh but because they were so laughable.

As early as 2008, a supervisor noticed Dookhan's testing numbers were high. He spoke to her superior, but nothing happened. In 2009, the supervisor took his concerns to another superior, saying he never saw Dookhan in front of a microscope.

In 2010, a supervisor did an audit of Dookhan's paperwork but didn't retest any of her samples. The audit found nothing wrong. The same year, a fellow chemist found seven instances where Dookhan incorrectly identified a drug sample as a certain narcotic when it was something else. He told himself it was an honest mistake.

In one incident detailed by state police, a lab employee witnessed Dookhan weighing drug samples without doing a balance check on her scale.

Dookhan was handling a staggering number of samples. An average chemist could test 50 to 150 samples a month, but Dookhan was doing more than 500, according to monthly reports, a lab employee told police later.

And her supervisors knew it. Her co-workers knew it. They may have come up with excuses why her mistakes may not have been deliberate, but they knew it all along. They just shut their eyes tight and went on with their business, making sure defendants were convicted.

People are funny. When they see something that stinks, but stinks in a way that produces results they like, they play whatever mental games they have to in order to rationalize the problem away.  They believe in the results, which reminds us again of why crime labs have become such a cesspool for error. They consider themselves an adjunct of the prosecution, not a neutral agency whose only purpose is to perform scientific testing. They are part of the machinery of conviction, and are not only expected to do their part, but want to do their part. They want to be proud of the fact that their work puts bad guys away.

The law adores science. Prosecutors and judges may not really understand much about it, which is how we ended up as lawyers rather than doctors, but we embrace the notion of science because it brings a sense of precision and exactitude to our otherwise fuzzy world.  It's an issue precluder, conclusively determining facts as facts and thus removing them from the mix of variables that could be in doubt.

Wrap up a ham sandwich in scientific mumbo-jumbo and we'll eat it up. For years, lawyers stipped to the chemists findings, even before the prosecution was required to put the warm body on the stand, because there wasn't much to do with them. They would recite all the tests they did and how that proved a substance was evil. It was all very perfunctory and official sounding. It's not like you would get Annie on the stand to testify that she "dry labbed" the sample and never actually did the tests at all.

And this is with the good forensic science, the real stuff. Not the bite marks, the duct tape, bullets, fingerprints or even Cokie, the beloved drug dog.  This is the stuff, like DNA, which has an actual scientific basis. But none of it is actual science unless it's performed properly, subject to scientific method, by people who don't lie and contort, contaminate samples and "sprinkle" when the sample comes up empty.

There will be no shortage of hand-wringing over the disaster Annie has caused.  Now, despite the fact that it could have been nipped in the bud, they have over 60,000 samples she tested, plus however many she signed off on forging other chemists initials which basically puts every test every done at risk, they have a problem.

People will walk, as well they should.  Good people and bad people alike will walk.  Whether this will make any prosecutor, judge or juror think twice about the efficacy of scientific, even good science, in that anything that involves the variable of a human being is never as perfect as it seems.  After all, this isn't the first crime lab fiasco, and yet the gatekeepers continue to compartmentalize the disasters as isolated instances, one after another.

That there was an Annie Dookhan working in the Massachusetts crime lab can be chalked up to one bad apple. That no one figured out that she was doing the dirty when her supervisor never saw her in front of a microscope, however, can't. That there were doubts for years and no one ever mentioned it, as in  Brady for example, while lawyers faced irrefutable scientific proof in court that foreclosed any further hard thought about the scientific evidence, there was a whole system at work covering up for Annie's 500 samples per month output of eyeballing white powder and proclaiming it cocaine, all to please the police and be a laboring oar in their vital mission to convict.

Yet the law, and the courts, still love science.  It's one less thing to fight about.

Erlinder charges WMCL with discrimination based on disability

Erlinder

Professor Peter Erlinder has filed a charge of discrimination with the EEOC against William Mitchell College of Law.

A copy of the charge was mailed anonymously to Minnesota Lawyer, with no note or cover letter.

Erlinder claimed discrimination based on disability and retaliation because he has post-traumatic stress disorder. His PTSD stems from his imprisonment in Rwanda in 2010 and subsequent death threats from  Rwanda’s President Kagame.  He is undergoing treatment and has medication.

He alleged that William Mitchell has been a hostile work environment since he returned from Rwanda.

He stated that he suffered a PTSD episode on Jan. 3, 2012  and that on Jan. 12 Dean Eric Janus ordered him off the campus.  On Jan. 13 he was escorted off the campus by an armed guard, he said.

Janus told Minnesota Lawyer that the school takes its obligations under the ADA “very very seriously and “vigorously denies the allegations of hostile work environment or retaliation.” He said he could not further discuss personnel or employee’s medical matters, but that the school has conducted its own investigation.

Christina Aguilera ‘Your Body’ Video Released

Christina Aguilera has released a video for her song ‘Your Body’. The song is ok and the video well let me just say it is something to see.

‘Your Body’ video is very colorful as well as all about pop culture and lots of men. In fact in the begging of the video there is a little warning that talks about how no men were harmed dring the video. It is a very cute disclaimer and kind of important one considering the singer seduces a ton of men in the video all while being a number of different characters. If you haven’t heard the song it is basically about being loved for your body and the video reflects that same concept.

As a number of different glammed up characters Christina proves that not only does she still have a great body but she has some freaking killer moves. The girl so knows what she does best and isn’t afraid to show that off to anyone. I personally liked the video;, it wasn’t her best but it gave me a great insight into her new upcoming album ‘Lotus’which is scheduled to be released on November 13th. The singer recently release this statement about her upcoming 5th album.

“This album represents a celebration of the new me, and to me the lotus has always represented this unbreakable flower that withstands any harsh weather conditions in its surroundings, that withstands time and remains beautiful and strong throughout the years.”

Back to the video, I think it has a really cool concept and Christina clearly gets her point across about being being loved for your body only. I will say this don’t go into watching the video like it is some poppy video that is nothing but feel good music. Nope even though it isn’t dark let me just say that the singer whacks, yes I did say whack. All in all it is kind of unusual, a little different, a little cray but it doesn’t suck. I could go on and on about it and I could even give you a lowdown of what to expect when you watch it buy why do that when you can check it out for yourself. Be sure to let me know your thoughts once you get done viewing the video.

Navy vets scammer identified, authorities say

The Navy veterans charity scammer will be unmasked by authorities this morning.

“Bobby Thompson,” as he called himself, raised money in the name of veterans, donated some of it to politicians in Virginia, and won relaxed charity regulations from the General Assembly.

Thompson disappeared when his scam was exposed but was arrested in Oregon after a nationwide manhunt. The [Cleveland] Plain Dealer reports federal officials have scheduled a news conference today to reveal Thompson’s true identity.

Prosecutors had sought Thompson’s DNA through court proceedings.

Thompson’s Florida-based organization collected at least $2 million from Virginia residents and donated $55,500 to the campaign of Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli. After Thompson’s scam was discovered, the General Assembly repealed a change limiting oversight of charity fundraising. Cuccinelli donated the Thompson contribution to veterans’ groups.

Rihanna & Chris Brown's Secret Bathroom Rendezvous In The Big Apple!

Oh shiz!

While it might not have been Rihanna’s California King Bed, she and Chris Brown seemed to make things work in a club bathroom last night!

Reportedly, the ex couple found themselves together at Griffin nightclub in NYC for a quick and gritty Monday night hook-up sesh!

A source revealed:

“They were in the club partying hard, had some drinks and kush and one thing led to another and that was that. She wanted some of him and she got some. Wasn’t like Chris was gonna turn her down. He wanted her just as much as she wanted him.”

Dayum! Sounds like gurl just got down to business! LOLz!

An insider says Rihanna and Chris were locked up inside the bathroom for nearly 30 minutes -- while two bodyguards kept watch -- and Rihanna walked out ALL smiles!

However, don’t think RiRi and Breezy’s little encounter just happened by chance! Supposedly, the two had been texting all night and agreed to meet up at the club!

Is the former couple unable to let go of what they once had... or did the Diamonds songstress want to get it in and get out??

We can never be TOO certain with these two!! Guess we'll just have to wait and see...

Christina Aguilera To Record Label Execs: “I’m A Fat Girl…Get Over It”

aguilerab Christina Aguilera To Record Label Execs: Im A Fat Girl...Get Over It

Christina Aguilera has opened up about her struggles with her weight and the pressure the record industry executives have put on her to be thin.

The singer and “Voice” judge told Billboard Magazine, “During the promotion of Stripped in 2002 I got tired of being a skinny, white girl. I am Ecuadorian but people felt so safe passing me off as a skinny, blue-eyed white girl”.

The five-time Grammy Award-winning singer said, “The next time my label saw me, I was heavier, darker and full of piercings! Let me tell you, that wasn’t an easy pill for them to swallow. I had gained about 15 pounds during promotion and during my Stripped tour.”

Aguilera explains, “They called this serious emergency meeting about how there was a lot of backlash about my weight. Basically, they told me I would effect a lot of people if I gained weight — the production, musical directors.

“[They claimed] people I toured with would also miss out if I gained weight because I would sell no records or tickets for my shows. I was young, so I lost the weight quickly and was toothpick thin during Back to Basics promos and touring.”

But now that Christina is older, she was prepared to stand up to the music executives.

Aguilera began working on her soon-to-be-released album, Lotus, she told the labels head honchos, “You are working with a fat girl. Know it now and get over it. They need a reminder sometimes that I don’t belong to them. It’s my body”.

Christina Aguilera hopes that her new album, which hits stores November 13, will mark a comeback.

The Economic Impact of Lawsuits by Patent Trolls

Patent litigation has taken off in recent decades. While many of the most visible patent lawsuits are initiated by major technology companies seeking to gain leverage over competitors, an increasing number are brought by patent trolls—firms that acquire patents with no intention of developing a technology with them, but instead use them to threaten practicing companies with litigation over alleged infringements. In this BU Law podcast, host David Yas, a BU Law alum, former publisher of Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly and a V.P. at Bernstein Global Wealth, joins James E. Bessen, lecturer in law at Boston University School of Law and a faculty associate at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard, to talk about his paper, The Private and Social Costs of Patent Trolls. Together they discuss the economic impact of the surge in lawsuits by patent trolls, the potential for legislation to solve this problem, and how the patent war is ultimately affecting innovation.

The Rights of the Unappreciated

Just as many complain about their treatment at the hands of the police, the police complain of their treatment at the hands of others.  And bad as you have it, some police officers believe they have it far worse. This isn't an outsider guessing at what a cop is thinking (a great parlor game, by the way), but what cops have to say for themselves. From Police One:

A photo of Boles’ dead body began circulating the city. The St. Louis Police Department launched an internal affairs investigation into who took the photo and how it was disseminated.

Ultimately, the Department sought a court order for responding officers’ cell phone photo records, claiming the officers were not cooperating with the investigation and providing the relevant information voluntarily.

A spokesman for the local Police Officers Association was quick to respond, telling the media how awful it was for morale to know your administration:

“[D]oesn’t think that you have the same [Fourth Amendment] rights as every criminal out there has.”

I hear the same confusion in my training about officers’ 1st and 4th Amendment rights — and liabilities — in the internet age. It comes in the form of:

“You mean I put everything on the line to protect and serve and I have fewer Constitutional rights than criminals who violate other peoples’ rights?”

Simply put, yes.

Brush away that tear. There's more.

[A] New Orleans police officer who commented on a local TV station’s website about the fatal shooting of teenager Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman. The officer posted, “Act like a Thug Die like one!” When another commenter named “Eddie” questioned whether the officer was racist and a hoodie sweatshirt made someone a thug, the officer replied:

“Eddie come on down to our town with a ‘Hoodie’ and you can join Martin in HELL and talk about your racist stories!”

The officer was suspended and then resigned. The first two reader comments to the article on PoliceOne illustrate confusion:

“When are officers across this country going to learn that your 1st Amendment rights are severely restricted?”

“Absolutely disagree! Our 1st Amendment rights are not restricted simply because we chose to join the law enforcement profession. Nowhere in my Oath of Office did it say “and I forfeit the following USC rights...”

Feel the pain. Feel the anguish. And you thought it was just power and free donuts.

Not only is the article, not to mention the commentary, bizarrely yet facilely misguided, but it feeds the antagonism police feel toward others. And this is what police are telling, teaching and spreading amongst themselves. Before you get unduly outraged, it bears a certain similarity to those who hate all cops, impugn their motives at every turn and relies on facile rationalizations to blame them under every circumstance. Then again, they have guns and shields, which makes their threats of harm a bit more serious.

What this shows isn't that cops have fewer rights than anyone else, but different responsibilities. When they speak in uniform or as a self-identified police officer, they can't spew the hatred, threats and venom they feel as private citizens because they are speaking as an agent of government.

That's the job they chose, taking on a distinct role. On the bright side, they get to shoot dogs whenever they feel the slightest hint of personal threat. On the dark side, they can't put every cool pic they have on the internet. We all have trade-offs in life, just as we can't fully exercise our First Amendment rights to police officers or they will think us contemptuous of their authority, and we prefer not to be beaten.

But the question isn't always their right to speak their mind, but what speaking their mind tell us about them. For example, an expression that might be seen as a good reason to seek psychiatric treatment as a private citizen could form the basis for a belief that a police officer is unfit to be given and gun and set loose on society.  The issue isn't the right of free speech, but the right of a person who has exercised free speech to be a cop.  If what you have to say suggests that you are a danger to society, then maybe you shouldn't be handed a gun and shield?

But don't pull out that tiny violin just yet.  Police still have a few rights in their bag, such as the right to remain silent as exercised by former Bell, California Police Chief Randy Adams. Fighting for his due, a pension of $510,000 following his glorious one year tenure as Chief, CalPERS tried to turn the tables on him.

Already one of California's highest paid public pensioners, former Bell Police Chief Randy Adams this week asked a state pension panel to double his retirement pay to reflect the huge salary he received during his brief stint as the top cop in the scandal-plagued city.

If  Adams wins his case, which is being heard in Orange County, his pension would zoom to $510,000 a year, making him the second-highest-paid public pensioner in California.

On the witness stand Thursday, Adams invoked his 5th Amendment right to not incriminate himself 20 times, including when asked about his Bell salary, which was among the highest law enforcement paychecks in the nation.

For the uninitiated, there is no entitlement more sacred to law enforcement than their pension. They earn it by risking their lives every day on the streets protecting you from the criminals.  Even if they sit in an office, the biggest risk they face is a paper cut and they can't distinguish between the people they're trying to save and the criminals they're saving them from. Be thankful puppies are all furry, or they might be shooting children by mistake.

Rather than complain about how criminals have more rights that cops, every sworn officer should think long and hard about Chief Randy Adam's invocation of his right not to incriminate himself during his testimony to get his rightful pension and thank their lucky stars they are cops in America.   They may not be able to whine as freely as they like, but no one can stop them from saying the most important thing:Viginti et ex.

George Michael Axes Tour Over Anxiety Issues

george2 George Michael Axes Tour Over Anxiety Issues

George Michael has canceled his Australian tour after announcing he was suffering from “major anxiety” as he continues to recover from a his almost fatal case of pneumonia.

The singer stated he didn’t realize how hard the recovery would be after his illness last year.

Michael said he will undergo further treatment to help him cope with the mental issues that were caused by his brush with death.

The 49-year-old star spent a month in a hospital in Vienna, Austria, last November where they weren’t certain he would survive.

George has continued to sing and performed “White Light” at the Olympic Games closing ceremony, a track that was about his near fatal illness.

In a statement issued by entertainment promoter Dainty Group yesterday, Michael said the cancellation of his Australian tour next month “breaks my heart”.

George Michael said, “I have tried in vain to work my way through the trauma that the doctors who saved my life warned me I would experience.

“They recommended complete rest and the type of post-traumatic counseling which is available in cases like mine but I’m afraid I believed (wrongly) that making music and getting out there to perform for the audiences that bring me such joy would be therapy enough in itself.

“Although I was right to believe that the shows would bring me great happiness and that my voice would recover completely (I truly think that some of my recent performances have been my best ever) I was wrong to think I could work my way through the major anxiety that has plagued me since I left Austria last December”.

The shows that were canceled were in Perth, Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and the Hunter Valley.

Michael still plans to finish the remainder of his UK shows before seeking treatment for post traumatic stress.

You Lookin' At Me?

As The Juice always says, if you don't like what you're looking at, look away! Per The Dutch Harbor Telegraph (Dutch Harbor, Alaska):

1312 - Assistance Rendered – Previously convicted assailant reported that since he returned to town, his victim has been giving him the stink-eye. An officer advised the assailant to simply avoid looking at the victim.
No, not the stink-eye! Run!

JACK: I turn around and run!

SISTER: If a stranger says, "Come here, I want to give you some candy," what do you do?

JACK: I turn around and run!

Robert Pattinson Bad In Bed?

Man, as if a huge cheating scandal isn’t embarrassment enough. As if cheating with a married man isn’t bad enough. Now there are rumors that the real reason for Kristen Stewart’s infidelity is because…Robert Pattinson is bad in bed. Oh, snap!!

Oh my, poor Robert. He looks like a damn fool. He has gotten back with Kristen after this disgusting scandal (I’m sorry I hate cheaters and I hate people who cheat with married men) and refused to talk about it to the press. Rob has taken the high road and things just keep popping up that make him look like a fool.

Star magazine is reporting that Kristen was trash talking Rob to her friends claiming that he was bad in bed.

One source actually says Rob’s found out about this lil’ secret and now he’s super pissed. They say:

“Rob couldn’t believe that Kristen was telling everyone that he’s bad in bed. Not only did she cheat on him, she humiliated him. Now that he’s heard about the rumors she’s been spreading, there’s no chance [of permanent reconciliation].”

Hello, Robert, you can have any lady in Hollywood. Why are you sticking with this chick? While Perez is quick to point out that Kristen doesn’t talk about anything private and everyone was shocked when she released a statement (I love him, I love him balh blah balh), I still thin she has to confide in some of her friends and who is to say they didn’t sell her out after this whole thing went down?

I feel bad for Rob, and I give him props for sticking with Kristen after this. It means he really thinks she is the one and he has a forgiving heart. i just hope he doesn’t end up screwed. And if he is bad in bed…well, that won’t last.

arnolds4 Arnold Schwarzenegger Speaks About Affair On 60 Minutes (VIDEO)

Arnold Schwarzenegger has appeared in his first interview since he dropped the bombshell about his “love child” with his former housekeeper.

The actor and former California Governor discusses his infidelities and reflects on his life on the road to becoming famous in his upcoming autobiography, “Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story.”

Arnold agreed to an interview with Lesley Stahl for “60 Minutes” to promote his new book.

Lesley asked about the actor’s cheating on Maria Shriver, asking “So you lied to her?”

“You can say that,” responded Schwarzenegger.

“She gave up her television career for you…” Stahl said, asking “was this just the most unbelievable act of betrayal, to Maria?”

This was a word Arnie didn’t feel comfortable using apparently.

The action star also admits in his book that he had a “hot affair” with actress Brigitte Nielsen while they filmed “Red Sonja” in 1985 when he was already living with Maria Shriver.

Schwarzenegger, now 65, never thought the relationship with Nielsen was serious and that the fling actually convinced him to marry Shriver.

The interview with Schwarzenegger is on tonight on “60 Minutes”.

The book will be released Monday, Oct. 1, from Simon & Schuster, a company owned by CBS.
