Justin Theroux graces the cover of Details magazine. The HBO’s ‘The Leftovers’ star speaks out on tabloid stories about him and his fiance Jennifer Aniston and addresses a variety of other topics in a candid and absorbing interview.
The 42-year-old actor, director and screenwriter has had more than his share of tabloid and paparazzi attention since dating and becoming engaged to Jennifer Aniston and it’s one of the topics he is unsparingly candid about.
But he also told ‘Details’ magazine about his childhood which saw his mother chronicling his life in newspaper columns and revealing that at age 5 when she asked him about their bedtime ritual he said, “Are you doing this for the Post or the Times?” B
Fast forward to the future and to an era with a much more voracious and wide reaching news cycle. Indeed one that never sleeps. He said of the tabloid stories, “It’s always based in fiction.” He went on to recount a crew member on ‘The Leftovers’ who congratulated him after the tabloids announced Jennifer Aniston was pregnant with twins.
He said, “You just kind of ignore it, but then you also become reluctant to say anything about the relationship. I could say everything’s good, and then it’s reflected back as justin theroux: everything’s good? That just creates this echo chamber, and as it ricochets around the Internet, it just gets wacky.”
Reflecting upon the impact of such unwanted attention he said, “It doesn’t feel like a hardship, it doesn’t feel difficult. He added, “It can be an annoyance, but it’s not the end of the world. You have to center on what its core thing is, which is that you met someone you fell in love with.”
He adds, “It’s hard to explain. I just find myself wondering, What’s the big f*cking deal?”
Unfortunately for all too many people the personal lives of celebrities — or rumors, speculation and gossip thereof — are still a big deal.
