Ariana Grande in V Magazine Interview on Detractors, Going Vegan, Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Madonna and More

Ariana Grande is outspoken on detractors, going vegan, comparisons to Mariah Carey, what she has learned from Beyonce and Madonna and more in an interview with V magazine.

The 20-year-old Ariana Grande rose to fame on Nickelodeon, most recently on ‘Sam & Cat,’ and concurrently she has reinvented herself as a pop music diva who is constantly compared to Mariah Carey. Certainly not a bad lot for someone under the microphone — as child stars always are as they transition to adulthood.

Ariana Grande excels in print interviews and she has given several. Her candor and her unexpected answers often draw headlines. This V Magazine interview is no exception.

Yes, she takes on those Mariah Carey comparisons and tells the magazine — and the rest of us — ““I mean, it’s a huge compliment, But when you hear my entire album, you’ll see that Mariah’s sound is much different than mine.”

As for her musical idols, she speaks about Beyonce and what she learned from her, saying, “That’s where I discovered my range. I grew up listening to Destiny’s Child. I would try so hard to mimic all BeyoncĂ©’s little runs and ad-lib things,” she says. “They are so precise. It’s like math.”

For career guidance, perhaps we might call it, she looked to the Queen of Pop, Madonna who has been in the public spotlight and a formidable performer for more than three decades. She knows how to pick them!

Ariana Grande says of her, “She is my idol as far as attitude. I just love how she stands up for what she believes in and surprises people by not eff-ing up when they want her to so badly.”

She went on to elaborate on how Madonna inspires her to become her own person, she said, “When a bad review came out, [Madonna] was the first person to say ‘F–k you.’ When someone said she sounded like Minnie Mouse, she crawled into bed naked except for Minnie Mouse ears. It’s such a good attitude to have. It’s inspiring to me because there are times when I think I’ve been a weak, people-pleasing little mouse my whole life.”

Still she revealed that it is a challenge to cope with the detractors — to “become stronger in this industry” as she puts it. She said, “I’ve learned over the past year that you don’t have time to chase after every person who doesn’t understand you. The people that know me know that I’m a nice girl. My fans know that I’m a nice girl. My friends know that I’m a nice girl. And ultimately, that’s all that matters.”

Ariana Grande also had quite a bit to say about going vegan after having seen the eye-opening documentary, ‘Forks Over Knives’ as such she is among a sizable number of notable celebrity who have gone vegan after seeing the movie including James Cameron, Russell Brand, Jason Mraz, Ozzy Osbourne, Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard.

She said, “In America, almost everybody thinks you need to have meat for protein. Protein, protein, protein! And what’s in dairy? Calcium, calcium, calcium. It’s those kinds of proteins that latch onto the insides of your bloodstream and make it easier for you to have a heart attack.”

She went on to make a pointed comment: “Look, cows produce milk with nutrients for cows. Maybe that’s why Americans end up looking like cows!” And, yes, that is a persuasive argument for not drinking the milk of another species! She went on to say, “Ultimately, no one wants cow t-t pus in their food, do they?” Likewise!
