Taylor Swift Announces ‘First Official Pop Album,’ ’1989,’ Premieres ‘Shake It Off’ Music Video

Taylor Swift has the music world buzzing with the announcement of her new “first official pop album,’ entitled ’1989,’ and the world premiere of her music video ‘Shake It Off’ which sees the music superstar dancing and taking on the haters.

Taylor Swift premiered her new video and made the album announcement in a live appearance on Yahoo Live. The new album is her fifth and it will be released on October 27th. For fans it was a much anticipated double treat, as she has hinted about new music for some time, offering tantalizing tidbits in various interviews.

As is always the case with Taylor Swift the songwriter, the world looks for the autobiographical clues. Who will she be singing about this time? She has already a roster of celebrities and public figures that have obliquely figured in albums, ranging from the actor Jake Gyllenhaal, the boy band heart throb, One Direction’s Harry Styles, as well as such fellow music artists as Joe Jonas and John Mayor and even one of the Kennedy clan, Connor Kennedy.

Well that all remains to be seen and heard! But in the meantime, we do have the ‘Shake It off’ video which upon its debut became a trending topic on Twitter. Taylor Swift is seen dancing — in fact trying out a variety of dances and thus mocking her own burgeoning reputation for being an awkward dancer.

She also is seen in a variety of iconic costumes in homage to various entertainers from Lady Gaga to Jennifer Lopez. She also takes on ballet and cheerleading, with gleeful awkwardness.

It’s all quite fitting with the devil-may-care lyrics. ‘shake It Off’ is quite literally letting us know critics and criticism don’t matter with such lines as “Cause the players gonna play, play, play / And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate / Baby I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake.”

Yes, the bouncy song is very much a pop song as Taylor Swift also lets us know she is crossing over into the pop music genre in full after so many years of being a country-pop crossover.
