Paul Walker Movie: ‘The Hours’ Trailer and Interview (Video)

‘The Hours’ is one of Paul Walker’s final movies, unreleased at the time of his death. He is the star of the suspense drama set in the days of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. You can see the trailer and one of his last interviews in which he discusses his role in the movie.

There is now heightened interest in the Paul Walker movie which was written and directed by Eric Heisserer in his feature film directorial debut. It’s an independent film which was shot on location in New Orleans and had its premiere at the 2013 South by Southwest film and music festival (SXSW).

It was previously scheduled to open in theaters just two weeks after the tragic death in a car crash of its star, Paul Walker, of ‘Fast & Furious’ fame. The role was a departure for him as he was so frequently seen in such action-adventure blockbusters.

In ‘The Hours,’ Paul Walker portrayed Nolan Hayes, whose wife, Abigail (Genesis Rodriguez) has just given birth. It’s a premature birth, and the newborn’s life is sustained by a ventilator. But tragically his wife dies in childbirth even as modern technology will allow the baby to live.

But this is August 29, 2005. Fate intervenes in the form of Hurricane Katrina. Suddenly the hospital is without electrical power, as flood waters rise in the lower floors. As the hospital is evacuated, the new father — and new widower — remains behind, alone with his child. As was the case with so many who endured Katrina, he finds no rescue and must do all that he can to somehow fend for himself even as he sustains the life of his baby who is dependent upon the ventilator that he must power with a battery operated generator.

Both trailers are below, and in them you can see the tension and desperation of the circumstances. It’s especially poignant to see Paul Walker in this highly dramatic role, essentially a solo player in much of the film. It’s a reminder of all that we have lost with his untimely death at age 40.

In an interview with HitFix (video below), which is one of the last before his death, Paul Walker spoke about his passion for the movie, as well as the passion of others who were involved in the movie which was shot primarily at New Orlean’s Methodist Hospital which gave it heightened veracity as this hospital was flooded and sustained damage in the aftermath of Katrina, when the levees broke.

The movie received a rave review from Variety as did Paul Walker’s performance. The reviewer noted that he “gracefully balances the drama on his shoulders.”

‘Hours’ also stars TJ Hassan, and Judd Lormand. Unless there is a change, it is scheduled to open in theaters on December 13th.
