‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Trailer (Video)

The first trailer of ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ has made its debut online. It is the first glimpse of the science fiction sequel which stars Gary Oldman, Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, and Keri Russell.

The highly anticipated movie, directed by Matt Reeves (‘Cloverfield,’ ‘Let Me In’), is a sequel to ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ of 2011 which costarred James Franco, Freida Pinto and Andy Serkis.

The new movie is set 15 years after the first, and it finds few humans have survived the devastating virus which killed most of them. They struggle to survive in what remains of San Francisco and are now becoming increasingly at odds with the genetically evolved apes who are led by Caesar, portrayed by Andy Serkis who reprises his role and brings back a memorable character with a fascinating origin. The actor is known for his portrayal of Gollum in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ movies as well as ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.’

This is a classic teaser trailer, and as such it reveals very little. We see the Oscar-nominated actor Gary Oldman — who portrays Dreyfus, marking his first time in the ‘Planet of the Apes franchise — speaking before a gathered crowd of humans. He attempts to rally them and end the divisiveness among them. “We’ve been through hell together,” he says. “Then another four years fighting each other. It was chaos. But you all know what we’re up against.”

Very little of the leader, Caesar, is seen the trailer but we get the visceral understanding of the perilous existence of the humans as the camera lingers on the murky and menacing images of the apes. The official synopsis of the movie speaks of a growing conflict between the humans and the apes, and finally war.

‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ also stars Kodi Smit-McPhee, Kirk Acevedo, Toby Kebbell, Enrique Murciano, and Judy Greer. It opens in theaters on July 11, 2014.
