Britney Spears opens up on a variety of topics including her past regrets, increased media scrutiny, her upcoming residency in Las Vegas and more in a new interview with The Telegraph.
The 32-year-old pop music superstar is about to start her two-year ‘Piece of Me’ residency at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. Her latest album, ‘Britney Jean,’ her eighth release — and in her words the most personal — is now out. She has plenty to say to The Telegraph is what is billed as her only UK interview.
She has been in the limelight for twenty years since her initial rise to fame in the early 1990s as a member of The Mickey Mouse Club alongside fellow famous alumni Christina Aguilera, Ryan Gosling as well as her now ex-boyfriend, Justin Timberlake. She has witnessed how the dynamics of fame have changed over the years. She says of it, ““The increased scrutiny does make me a little harder on myself these days…There are more expectations of me now, not just in terms of what I do, but also in terms of who I am.”
Asked about “growing up in 2008″ which was the year that followed her painfully public meltdown, and which saw her make her comeback with the ‘Circus’ album as well as the world tour of the same title, she said, “Yeah, but I liked it. And believe it or not, I ended up liking going to bed early, in a weird way. At night, that’s when you mess up. So if you go to bed at 9.30, you’re good.”
As for her biggest professional regret, it is the 2005 documentary reality TV movie ‘Chaotic’ with then-husband Kevin Federline. She says of it, “I would never do something like that again.” She goes on to say, “Actually, that was really bad..That was probably the worst thing I’ve done in my career.”
The interviewer then seizes the opportunity to ask her about the 2002 movie “Crossroads.” She shouts — “No! I like Crossroads! F— you!” — before having a laugh at his expense.
The full interview is here.
It’s quite lengthy and is one of few interviews Britney Spears has given with the release of the new album and the residency in Vegas which will start two days after Christmas. Her relative absence from media — both print, online and television — is notable for someone with so much to promote. Save a few TV interviews, notably on ET as well as ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ and the occasional cover story article and interview, we have seen very little of Britney Spears. After so many years of traveling the world, the world must now travel to Vegas to her!
