Miley Cyrus and Giant Crying Kitten Sing ‘Wrecking Ball’ at the AMAs (Video)

Miley Cyrus has stolen yet another awards show with a talked about performance. This time it’s the American Music Awards which saw her share the stage with a giant, animated kitten who became her backup singer on her smash hit ‘Wrecking Ball.

Celebrating her 21st birthday the day before, the pop star emerged for a performance no one could have predicted. Except that from Miley Cyrus we expect a performance we can’t predict even as we wait for the chance to comment about it after it’s taken place.

Her performance was the last one on the 41st American Music Awards show which was broadcast live at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on ABC. Given that it was network television, perhaps she had this in mind in crafting a performance. While Adam Lambert pushed the envelope at that same awards show by kissing a man on stage and simulating sex with another, Miley Cyrus did not travel in that risque direction.

There were no humans on stage at all with which to touch or to twerk. Miley Cyrus has had little people as backup dancers; most recently at the MTV EMAs. But this time she shared the stage with a giant yellow tabby CGI kitten who lip synched all of the words of the ballad. She herself wore the skimpiest of costumes for the network, a virtual bikini, silver colored and emblazoned with kittens.

As she sang, the animated kitten lip synched along and finally towards the end of the song began to cry. And, graciously allowing herself to be upstaged, Miley Cyrus kept her tongue in her mouth and it was that giant kitten that stuck out its tongue at the end.

Once again, closing out the night of performances at the American Music Awards, the pop star and master provocateur wins out. The performance has been a hit, trending on Twitter, needless to say! You can watch it below.
