Scarlett Johansson is Esquire Magazine’s Sexiest Woman Alive. For the second time, the magazine has bestowed the honor upon the actress who has been the sultry Black Widow a.k.a. Natalia Romanova in ‘Iron Man 2′ and ‘The Avengers’ and is seen in “Don Juan.”
The 28-year-old New York City-born actress graces the cover of Esquire and is featured in a seductive photo spread by Vincent Peters which sees her lounging in a bed wearing lingerie and high heels. She more than fulfills the dreams of its readers, as she has, after all, returned for a second time in the role, this time, dethroning Mila Kunis who, had dethroned Rihanna. It was back in 2006 that Scarlett Johansson first held the title, dethroning Jessica Biel. This time, she makes history, holding the honor not once for a second time. She had this to say of the honor:
“I’m the only woman to win twice right?..You know, I gotta hustle. I’m a twenty eight year old woman in the movie business, right? Pretty soon the roles you’re offered all become mothers. Then they just sort of stop. I have to hedge against that with work-theater, producing; this thing with Esquire.”
She has a point. Though there are a few exceptions — think Sandra Bullock who easily tops that list — Hollywood is still giving actresses a short shelf life. But Scarlett Johansson, beautiful and blonde and curvacious as she may be is more than a sex symbol and screen siren. In fact, she portrayed another screen siren; Janet Leigh in the movie “Hitchcock.” And also since her last stint as “Sexiest Woman Alive” she added a Tony Award to her shelf for her critically acclaimed portrayal of Catherine in the Broadway revival of Arthur Millers’ “A View from the Bridge.”
Back to the real world of Scarlett Johansson, she shares more tidbits of her life — which are interspersed with the seductive bedroom poses — including the intensity of her passion for her current boyfriend, Romain Dauriac:
“I didn’t think I was a jealous person,” she says, “until I started dating my current, my one-and-only. I think maybe in the past I didn’t have the same kind of investment. Not that I liked my partner less, I just wasn’t capable of it or caring that much.”
As millions of readers — whose votes gave her the honor — take a deep sigh and wish to trade places! But they must settle for the photos (here) and take as consolation that she graces the screen right now, portraying the girlfriend of the title character of Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s “Don Juan,” who surfaces this time as a porn addict. Which just goes to show how insidious the character’s addiction must be with a girlfriend who looks like the reigning Sexiest Woman Alive. But then again, Don Juan is Don Juan!
