Lea Michele speaks about the death of Cory Monteith for the first time in a new interview. Find out what the “Glee” star has to say about the tragic, untimely loss of her boyfriend and co-star on the program.
The 27-year-old actress spoke with TV Week Australia exclusively, in advance of the long-awaited premiere of the tribute episode to Cory Monteith, “The Quarterback,” in which his fictional character, Finn Hudson, has also died. The comments marked her first since Monteith’s death on July 13th at age 31, in a Vancouver hotel room of an overdose of intravenous heroin combined with alcohol, according to the recently released coroner’s report.
Lea Michele — who portrays Rachel Berry on the show who was Finn’s girlfriend — spoke about her loss, saying, “I feel like, for me personally, I’ve lost two people: Cory and Finn.” She spoke about the episode and its effect upon the cast, saying, ““We had a beautiful memorial for Cory in the auditorium and some of the cast members sang and people spoke about him. It only felt right that we would do the same thing for Finn, so I felt it was very therapeutic.”
She was asked if she consider quitting Glee in the aftermath of his death and she said that it was “no harder at work than it is in life.” Speaking of her fellow cast members, she added that they “might as well all be together as a family supporting each other to get through this together.”
She went on to share her feelings about her late boyfriend when she was asked what she wanted “Glee” fans to know about him:
“I really woke up every single day feeling like I was being in some sort of spell or something, that I was lucky enough to have him in my life. I feel like what happened with Cory (the cause of his death) was this big,” she says, holding her fingers together to reflect a miniscule amount, “in the scheme of who he was and his life.
“There was no greater man than Cory, so for the time we spent together I consider myself very lucky.”

Cast members will sing such songs as ‘If I Die Young’ and ‘No Surrender’ as the fictional McKinley High School students assemble to pay tribute to the one whom they lost. A promo for the episode was released, and went viral within days, as fans wait to see how the program will say good-bye to Cory Monteith’s character Finn Hudson.
Lea Michelle performs Bob Dylan’s ‘Make You Feel My Love.’ The poignant lyrics “…I’d go hungry, I’d go black and blue / I’d go crawlin’ down the avenue / No, there’s nothin’ that I wouldn’t do / To make you feel my love….” of a tender love song become, in this context, a bittersweet tribute to both the character and the man who died much too young.
