Kanye West on Jimmy Kimmel Live: Rap Feud Ends! (Full Video)

Was the Kanye West vs. Jimmy Kimmel feud a publicity stunt? The hip-hop icon and the comedian had their much-anticipated confrontation on the latter’s eponymous late night talk show. Watch what happened as they talked face to face on television!

Was the feud real? After Jimmy Kimmel was recently shown to be the mastermind behind the recent twerking epic fail viral video, skepticism ruled. And now he voiced how excited he was to “finally be in a rap feud.”

Kanye West had given him irresistible bait as his interview with Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1 went viral. He spoke highly of himself, saying at one point that he was the “biggest rock star” in the world.

Jimmy Kimmel ran with it, of course, creating a comedy skit; a parody starring child actors as the interviewer and the self-proclaimed “biggest rock star.” This proved too much for Kanye West who reacted with a flurry of angry Tweets and a phone call to his offender. The undeterred Kimmel recounted the details of the phone call and gave a dramatic reading of the Tweets on his show.

A feud? The long interview, and its notably awkward moments, seemed to dispel this as the two men had a free flowing exchange of ideas and thoughts and more than a few unresolved disagreements.

Jimmy Kimmel introduced Kanye West as a “21-time Grammy Award winning performer who last month threatened his very existence by insulting one of America’s best-loved television personalities.” The two men exchanged a brief handshake and hug as the sit-down interview began.

Kimmel admitted he had taken the quotes out of context but insisted that he did not think West would find the skit offensive.

For his part West admitted that in calling Kimmel, he was, in part, venting long-held frustration over how he is depicted in the media. He explained, “That elevates sometimes. Jimmy does his thing, I do my thing, and at some point egos can flare up, and we kind of took it back to high school.”

As cameras rolled and the studio audience looked on, they hashed it out. A good part of the discussion centered around Kanye West’s public persona. As West referred to himself as a “creative genius” rather than a mere “celebrity,” Kimmel interjected, saying, “I don’t know if you know this, but a lot of people think you’re a jerk.” He went on to elaborate, “When you said you think you’re a genius, I think that upsets people. But the truth is a lot of people think they’re geniuses, but nobody says it because it’s weird to say it. But it is most certainly more honest to say, ‘I am a genius.’”

West said, “”I’m totally weird and totally honest and I’m totally inappropriate sometimes, and the thing is for me not to say I’m not a genius I’d be lying to you and to myself.”

Some of the other highlights included a prerecorded a spoof of commercials that advertize boxed CD collections in which music superstar Josh Groban sang some of Kanye West’s Tweets as he accompanied himself at the piano, and waxed on about their profundity.

For the most part, it was a long discussion, as Kanye West had free reign to talk at length about his artistic vision, how he has been impacted by discrimination, and much more. Even Paula Deen got a name check as an “old-school racist.” He also vented his frustration and disappointment over how his girlfriend Kim Kardashian was denied a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

West spoke at length about the indignity he and his family — Kim Kardashian and their baby daughter North West — were subjected to by paparazzi. He said of it, “We bring something of joy to the world. When people hear my music they have a good time, and I should be respected as such when I walk down the street. Don’t ask me a question about something you saw on the tabloids. Don’t try to antagonize me, because it’s not safe for you in this zoo, you know? Never think that I’m not from Chicago for one second.”

And thus, with much, much, much talking, Jimmy Kimmel’s first ever rap feud came to an end. Watch the full replay below!
