Who is Christian Grey of “Fifty Shades of Grey?” Jamie Dornan? Alexander Skarsgard? Someone else? Charlie Hunnam is out. Who will replace him? Let the casting fantasies begin!
We have been here before. This armchair casting for the Sam Taylor-Johnson-directed movie version of E.L. James’ novel has gone on for months. We have momentary relief — if that’s what it was — when Christian Grey was revealed to be….Charlie Hunnam. But now he is out. Speculation over his departure and the real reason, is another armchair occupation, of course….
There is even speculation that we are losing the 24-year-old actress Dakota Johnson who has been cast as Anastasia Steele. But again, that is just speculation. Some are not content with shaking half of the principal cast; it seems nothing less than a total shakeup will do!
But the contenders? They are all speculative. Until we know, we simply don’t know. But that never stops a good rumor from taking hold!
We hear names tossed about. Jamie Dornan is said to be a frontrunner as Christian Grey. He is a 31-year-old Irish actor and model lately seen in “Once Upon a Time” as The Huntsman of that Snow White retelling. A gateway role, obviously, from one fantasy to another, albeit one is a bit more family friendly than the other!
We hear about Alexander Skarsgard, a 37-year-old Swedish actor, best known as Eric Northman, a vampire on HBO’s “True Blood.” A vampire as an S&M enthusiast? Obviously, that has some fans excited who were not already carried away over his looks.
But yet there are more names out there who might become the silver screen Christian Grey. Who might be the dark horse contender? There always must be one, after all. When we find out that it is not Jamie Dornan or that it is not Alexander Skarsgard, then who will it be?
Theo James? Christian Cooke? Billy Magnussen? Francois Arnaud? Luke Bracey? There are so many names to Google, and plenty of people with plenty of times on their hands. Just look at Twitter which lights up with all kinds of names. And not to be outdone, the tabloids, the blogs, even the industry mags have gotten in on the second-guessing in the days, if not hours before the announcement.
What we do know is that a decision must be made soon as the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie is to be released on August 1, 2014.
