Lawyer Ranking Method Gets Nod from PTO as Courts Weigh Patent Eligibility

Best-lawyer lists have been around for a long time, but a Thomson Reuters division announced Tuesday that it has won a brand-new patent for its own "comprehensive" process, entitled "System and method for identifying excellence within a profession." The Super Lawyers patent describes a seemingly obvious compilation process: create a candidate pool, evaluate candidates based partly on peer reviews and select finalists.
