Gary Oldman To Lead Humanity In 'Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes'

It's almost as if the makers of "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" are interested in making the sequel to "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" really, really good. First they go and get Matt Reeves to replace Rupert Wyatt. Then they cast "Zero Dark Thirty" break-out and star-waiting-to-happen Jason Clarke in the lead human role. Follow that with adding "The Road"'s Kodi Smit-McPhee, and you've got a movie.

But wait...there's more!

ComingSoon is reporting that famed franchise enhancer Gary Oldman is the latest to join the "Apes" sequel. According to the site, Oldman will play the leader of a human colony in a world where most of humanity has been wiped out by the virus hinted at during the climax of "Rise" and the apes have taken over.

Oldman's future co-star Jason Clark played coy about his role in the sci-fi adventure on the red carpet of the Academy Awards, only telling MTV News that he "plays a guy who's trying to save humanity."

We've learned little else about the film, which is supposed to open on May 23, 2014, expect that it takes place 15 years after Caesar's rise to power and that Andy Serkis will be reprising his role as the ape leader.
