EPA Finalizes New, Tougher Soot Pollution Standards

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has finalized controversial new standards limiting harmful soot pollution, a move that came after a federal judge earlier this year ordered the agency to act by December 14. The new standards call for a 20 percent reduction in fine particle pollution, which comes from such sources as diesel vehicles, power plants and wood-burning stoves.
