Here’s the first trailer for William H. Macy’s ‘Rudderless,’ a musical drama in which Selena Gomez costars with Billy Crudup. The pop music superstar is glimpsed in a highly dramatic role which sees her shedding tears.
‘Ruderless’ is an independent film which had its premiere at Sundance earlier this year and received mostly positive reviews from critics at the time.
Now months later with the release of the new trailer which gives us a glimpse of Selena Gomez there’s a resurgence of interest in the movie which is also William H. Macy’s feature film directorial debut. The screenplay was co-written by Jeff Robison and Casey Twenter.
It is Billy Crudup who has the lead role in the drama. He portrays Sam Manning, an ambitious advertising executive who meets with tragedy when his son, Josh, suddenly dies while away at college. He is left completely shattered for a time, and turns to alcohol. But eventually the bereaved father begins to come to grips with the death when he discovers his son’s demo tape and songs which he was previously unaware of. He learns the songs and begins performing them. He eventually forms a band with a man, Quentin portrayed by Anton Yelchin, and they perform the music.
For her part, Selena Gomez is Kate Ann Lucas, the grieving girlfriend and she is glimpsed in the trailer — fleetingly glimpsed at that — crying over him at his funeral. The former Disney star turned pop music star is continuing her foray into big screen acting with ‘Rudderless.’ Her presence in the movie has brought in a huge fan base, as is typical although hers is a supporting role.
‘Ruderless’ also costars Felicity Huffman, Laurence Fishburne, Anton Yelchin and Ben Kweller. The trailer video is below.
