Kate Upton opens up about her reasons for not doing a nude photo shoot as well as how she feels about being considered a “bombshell” and more in a Details magazine interview.
Kate Upton rose to fame when she graced the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue and has thus become a sex symbol as much as she has become a prominent model, and now actress. In her interview with Details magazine she was asked how she felt about doing a nude photo shoot with one of the famous fashion photographers in much the same way that such iconic supermodels — Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell and Lara Stone among others — have done.
She opened up on the topic and revealed her reasons for turning down such an opportunity, saying, “For me those photos are art. Your body is art, your body is beautiful, and to be photographed in that way is amazing and it’s received in a very positive way.”
She went on to say, “But with social media and the Internet and not so great blogs and the attention like that, I don’t think that my pictures would be received in the way that I’d want them to be received. That’s why I’ve stayed away from them. I really appreciate those photos and I think those women are beautiful, but I think social media and the Internet has prevented me from putting myself out there like that.”
Kate Upton has had more than her share of social media and online scrutiny over her body, and it’s clear she doesn’t want to invite any more of it than she is already going to get. She was also asked about her particular rise to fame, the aforementioned Sports Illustrated magazine cover and specifically how she felt as as a then-21-year-old to be considered a “bombshell.”
She said, “It’s where I’ve started and it’s what I’ve accomplished, so I’m happy about it.” She went on to add, “But the more my career grows, I think that people will see that I have a lot more to offer and a lot more to give, but I want to do it right and that’s why it’s taking me time. I’m patient about it.”
Continuing, she said, “Now it’s out of my hands — it has kind of been rolling on its own — but at the beginning I was micromanaging every little step. For example, I felt that my agency before wasn’t helping me in the direction I wanted to go, so I approached IMG myself.” Revealing her determination, she added, “I always had in my mind where I should be at a certain stage.”
