Stephen Colbert on Replacing David Letterman: “Huge Shoes To Fill and Some Really Big Pants”

He plays a narrow-minded conservative pundit on “Colbert Report,” and Stephen Colbert can’t wait for his new gig as the host of the “Late Show.”

During his Comedy Central program last night, the beloved comedian praised David Letterman for his contribution to showbiz for so many years.

Stephen shared, “Dave has been on the air my entire adult life. ‘Late Night’ debuted my first year in college. I learned more from watching Dave than I did from going to my classes, especially the ones I did not go to because I stayed up until 1:30 am watching Dave.”

And playing it cool about his position as Dave’s successor, Colbert continued, “This man has influenced every host who came after him, and even a few that came before him. He is that good. And I gotta tell you, I do not envy whoever they try to put in that chair! Those are some huge shoes to fill, and some really big pants.”
