This weekend, zombies take over the globe in "World War Z," and they're going to do so to a rocking soundtrack, some of which was provided by Muse, the band Brad Pitt handpicked for the film.
"World War Z" is just the latest example of movies and music coming together to make some memorable moments. Here are some of our favorite musical movie moments from the past few years.
"The Great Gatsby"
There are several sequences throughout this summer blockbuster that make you question whether or not you are watching the VMA's…live from 1920. Jay-Z as an executive producer basically guarantees an innovative, hip sound for this revamped adaptation. Beyonce, Lana Del Rey, Emeli Sande, Florence and the Machine, Jay-Z and more make this soundtrack last way after a wild night at The. Jay. Gatsby's.
"World War Z"
When Brad Pitt wants Muse, that's exactly what he gets. Just look at the titles of Muse's hit songs like, "Resistance," "Madness" and "Supermassive Black Hole" and try to not relate to those themes to a zombie apocalypse. Muse's dark tonal sound made them the focus of the "World War Z" soundtrack with their latest song "Isolated System." Their performance at the premiere party in London had both the dead and undead rocking out.
"The Hunger Games"
This mega-popular book and movie needed a melting pot of famous musicians and artists to appeal to the millions of young adults flocking to theaters, and that's what happened. The original movie soundtrack features big name artists across all genres: Taylor Swift, Kid Cudi, Maroon 5, Arcade Fire, Miranda Lambert and more. It's like these artists are trying to represent the 12 districts themselves.
"Wolf on Wall Street"
Outrageous parties. Extravagant wealth. Money being burned for "funzies." Great Gats— wait. It's Leonardo DiCaprio dancing to a Kanye West song. Smooth and catchy, this Kanye-Westicized trailer will probably not be the only "Yeezus" moment during the new Scorsese flick. It only makes sense to have someone on top of the acting game parallel someone on top of the rap game/world.
"The Twilight Saga"
When tweens weren't screaming at shirtless werewolves or shining vampires, they were probably listening to this alternative rock soundtrack featuring Paramore, Muse (again!), Linkin Park, and MuteMath. This soundtrack brought life to the otherwise "dead" Cullen family and fueled the developing romance of the always-animated Kristen Stewart and hunky Robert Pattinson.
"Despicable Me"
The opening sequence to this animated hit had older audiences hitting pause and saying, "Is that Pharrell?" Yes, yes it is. Pharrell produced three upbeat tracks for "Despicable Me 2" and four songs for the original movie soundtrack, including an appearance from Robin Thicke. It's like "Blurred Lines," but with minions instead of models.
