Plaintiffs and defense attorneys both found something to criticize in the California Supreme Court's compromise ruling Thursday in a closely watched mixed-motive employment case. The justices ruled that a termination based on both discriminatory and legitimate reasons can trigger attorney fees and declaratory or injunctive relief but not damages, back pay or reinstatement.
