Survivor Philippines Episode 4 Recap

I begin this week′s Survivor Philippines Episode 4 recap with a question; ″Is it just me or is this season subdued?″ We really do not have a comical or entertaining character to watch. Many may not have liked the evil Russell Hantz from previous seasons, but he certainly did make the show fun to watch. Instead, all we have is another week of the lame Matsing Tribe, losing challenge after challenge, and losing members at Tribal Council.

So we start the show on Day 9 at Matsing Tribe where its raining again and the gang is having trouble lighting a fire. These guys just cannot do anything right! Malcolm hopes that Denise, Russell and he can win at least one challenge. As the song ′Gold Fever′ from ″Paint Your Wagon″ says, ″The poor they have hope. The rich can buy soap!″

Over at Tandang Tribe, controversy arises after Pete dug up the hidden idol clue and left it visible in RC′s bag. So now the whole tribe knows about it. Abi thinks RC did it and was careless. They squabble some more, even though Abi has not told RC that she found the idol. As Pete fans the flames, Lisa tries to stay neutral. At Kalabawa Tribe, the men folk go fishing. Jonathan, Jeff and Carter form a new alliance backed up by Jon′s idol. Back on the beach, the ladies suspect that the men will betray them.

Day 10 and Malcolm is seems to be tiring of Russell and his ideology. Russell is still nervous that nobody is discussing any long-term alliance with him, so he looks around for the idol. Denise sees him poking about and doesn′t buy his explanation. She tells Malcolm about it and he goes through Russell′s belongings for clues. At Tandang, we are treated to another day of arguing between Abi and RC. Yawn!

Its time for the Immunity-Reward Challenge! Each tribe sends one player out at a time to carry two ceramic pots of rice. When all are carried through an obstacle course, one player will use a wrecking ball tethered to a long pole to bust the pots. The 1st tribe to break their pots wins a steak dinner with all the trimmings. The 2nd tribe wins an assortment of spices and another cooking pot. With Matsing only having 3 players, the other tribes field their men to do battle. Matsing actually begins with a lead thanks to Malcolm. But that soon evaporates as Tandang takes the lead and Kalabawa evens up. Tandang wins the steak dinner and Kalabawa takes second place as Russell fails to connect on the last pot. He goes into another rant about how he is created to perfection by God. Umm, yeah, Russell…, RIGHT! Kalabawa passes on the spices and take a tarp as their prize instead.

We are still on Day 10 as Matsing returns to camp to sulk. Russell tries to talk Malcolm into voting off Denise, but she and Malcolm are gunning for Russell. To make sure that he does not play an idol, Denise tells Russell that she is voting to boot Malcolm and discusses a long-term alliance. Russell seems happy that he is now the swing vote. Denise is nervous, worried about being bamboozled.

At Tribal Council, the Matsing Tribe moans and groans about their failings. But each gives their reasons for why they should stay in The Game. Denise says that she is tough. Malcolm says that he is young and strong. Russell says that he has heart and experience. Neither Russell nor Malcolm say anything bad about Denise as they trash each other. Its time to vote.

We see Russell and Malcolm trade votes. Jeff counts the ballots and Denise stuck true to her alliance with Malcolm, sending Russell home. So ends our Survivor Philippines Episode 4 recap. Spoilers for next week shows Malcolm and Denise scrambling to find the idol. Meanwhile, over at Kalabawa, the medics are called in. Somebody is either injured or got sick. Will they lose a player? Tune in to find out!
